The women’s basketball team at Patrick Henry Community College debuted at No. 10 in the NJCAA Division II Top 25 poll Wednesday.
The Lady Patriots (2-0 overall) have won their first two regular-season games by a combined score of 189-95.
The No. 10 ranking marked the 15th consecutive poll in which PHCC’s women’s team has been ranked among the nation’s top 13 teams. PHCC finished with a 26-6 overall record last season, moving as high as No. 3 in the poll.
Johnson County Community College, located in Overland Park, Kan., is ranked No. 1 in this week’s poll. Defending Region X champion Louisburg is No. 3, while fellow Region X foe Guilford Tech is ranked 15th in the country.
PHCC will play Guilford Tech on Dec. 12 and Feb. 13, and the Patriots will face Louisburg on Jan. 19 and Feb. 9.
Deadline is today for youth basketball registration
Today is the final day that Henry County Parks and Recreation will be accepting registration for its boys basketball program.
Basketball is being offered for boys between the ages of 8 and 13 years old as of Oct. 1 of this year.

Overbey sinks hole-in-one at FPCC
Betty Overbey hit a hole-in-one on No. 17 on Oct. 23 at Forest Park Country Club.
Overbey aced the 123-yard hole with a 3-wood.
SRSC to host youth football tournament
The Southside Youth Football League is accepting registrations this week for its second annual Kidz of Steel Fall Brawl at the Smith River Sports Complex.
The youth football tournament will run from Nov. 23-25 on two turf fields at the SRSC, and the tournament is open for the following age groups: 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U.
The league anticipates four to six teams will participate in the different age divisions.
The cost for the tournament is $50, and rosters should be emailed to Ivan Hairston at firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday. For more information, contact Hairston by email.
