Police seek local man

The Martinsville Police Department is searching for a suspect in connection with a Nov. 9 wounding.
Derrick Antonio Hunt, 25, of the Martinsville area, has been charged with malicious wounding with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or kill; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; shooting in a public place; attempted robbery; and use of a firearm during commission of a felony, according to a release from the city police.
The charges are in connection with a Nov. 9 incident in which a Martinsville man reported that he was walking on Cardinal Lane when he was approached by a man, the release stated. The victim said an attempt allegedly was made to rob him, the release added.
The victim took off running and was shot in the back, according to the release. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in Martinsville for treatment.
In addition to the charges in connection with that incident, the release stated that Hunt also is wanted on prior charges which include: altering a serial number on a firearm (misdemeanor); capias alleging failure to appear in court on June 12; capias alleging probation violation; possession of a schedule 1 or 2 drug while possessing a firearm; and possession of a schedule 1 or 2 drug (Oxycodone) without a prescription.
Hunt is listed as 6 feet tall and weighing 175 pounds. He has been entered into a National Law Enforcement Database and all area, State Police and surrounding area law enforcement agencies have been notified of Hunt’s status, the release stated.
Anyone aiding or assisting in concealing or helping Hunt may be charged, according to the release.
