BREAKING NEWS: Warner won't run for governor
Tuesday, November 20, 2012
U.S. Sen. Mark Warner said today he will remain in Congress rather than run for a second term as governor of Virginia.
In a news release, he stated that while “being governor was the best job I ever had. ... But when I asked Virginians to hire me as their senator, I made a promise to come to Washington to try to be a problem solver. I have to admit, it’s been tougher than I expected. But I’ve tried to keep at it.”
Warner noted his work to fix the nation’s debt and deficits. “ And you know, I’m actually more optimistic by the day that we’ll be able to get it done,” he stated.
Even if the nation avoids the fiscal cliff, work remains to be done on immigration reform, education, energy and the economic recovery, said Warner, a Democrat who served one term as governor before being elected to the Senate.
“I loved being governor, but I have a different job now — and it’s here, in the United States Senate,” he added.
