Hit and run fatality

A Bassett man was struck by a vehicle and killed in a hit and run accident as he pushed a bicycle on Virginia 673 on Tuesday night, according to the Virginia State Police.
Jasion Lionel Slaughter, 59, of Bassett, was pronounced dead at the scene, the state police release stated.
Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Slaughter was pushing a bicycle while walking southbound on Virginia 673 when he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle that left the scene, the release stated.
