BREAKING NEWS: Foul play not involved in baby's death, officials say
Six-month-old died Thursday
Friday, December 7, 2012
Authorities do not believe foul play was involved in the death of a 6-month-old baby in Henry County on Thursday.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke performed a preliminary autopsy on the baby Friday morning. Capt. Eric Winn of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said that based on the autopsy results, “nothing appears suspicious” in connection with the death.
However, an official cause of death will not be determined for a few months until results of toxicology tests come back, Winn said.
The 911 center received a call around 4:06 p.m. Thursday concerning an unresponsive infant. Deputies responded to Mountain Valley Road in Axton and found the child was not breathing, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
A family member performed CPR on the baby until crews from Stone Amublance Service arrived and took over, the release showed.
The infant was transported to Memorial Hospital in Martinsville where she was pronounced dead, according to the release.
