Friday, December 7, 2012

A Fieldale man is being held in the Henry County jail without bond after a 2 1/2 hour standoff with police on Saturday.

James Edward “Jim Ed” Greer, 47, of 677 Frank Redd Road, Fieldale, was arrested on outstanding charges not related to Saturday’s incident, according to a news release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Those charge are three counts of distribution of cocaine and one count of fail to appear in Henry County Circuit Court, the release stated.

Also, a 2002 Mercedes 4d was seized at the scene in relation to the distribution of cocaine charges, the release added.

Saturday’s incident began around 9:53 a.m. when the sheriff’s office responded to a call of shots being fired at the intersection of Pinewood Lane and Woodward Village Court in Henry County, the release stated.

There, they found a man with a weapon in a trailer who refused to come out, according to the release. Deputies called in additional help, and the man surrendered to officers around 12:23 p.m., the release added. He was taken into custody without further incident.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 632-7463. Crimestoppers can pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects of crimes.
