A Fieldale man was being held in the Henry County jail without bond after a 21?2-hour standoff with police on Saturday.

James Edward “Jim Ed” Greer, 47, of 677 Frank Redd Road, was arrested on outstanding charges not related to Saturday’s incident, according to a news release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Those charges are three counts of distribution of cocaine and one count of fail to appear in Henry County Circuit Court, the release stated.

Also, a 2002 Mercedes 4d was seized at the scene in relation to the distribution of cocaine charges, the release added.

Saturday’s incident began around 9:53 a.m. when the sheriff’s office responded to a call of shots being fired at the intersection of Pinewood Lane and Woodward Village Court in Henry County, the release stated.

Maj. Ricky Walker of the sheriff’s office said in an interview that it was reported to law enforcement that a male was outside shooting at an earthen embankment across from a mobile home.

When officers arrived, there was a male subject in the mobile home who refused to come out and had a weapon.

Deputies at the scene secured the area and called for additional support, the release stated.

Walker said in all about 15 officers from the sheriff’s office and three from the Virginia State Police responded to the scene.

The man surrendered to officers at about 12:23 p.m., according to Walker and the release.

He was taken into custody without further incident, the release added.

No shots were fired during the standoff, during which time the man was alone in the mobile home, Walker said.

A rifle and some other items were seized, Walker said.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 632-7463.

Crimestoppers can pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects of crimes.
