Ferrum College lifts lockdown after crime reports
Friday, December 14, 2012
FERRUM (AP) — Ferrum College officials have lifted a lockdown that was put in place after students reported two attempted robberies on campus, one of them possibly involving a gun.
College spokeswoman Kim Blair says police found no evidence of a threat and the lockdown was lifted about 6 a.m. Friday.
The private college in southwest Virginia issued an alert at 10:22 p.m. Thursday after the first attempted robbery was reported near Riddick Hall. Less than an hour later, another robbery was called in on campus and the lockdown was ordered as a precaution.
It marked the second time in three years the campus was placed on lockdown. In December 2010, a student reported a possible gunshot on campus, but a search of buildings found no threat.
