Joe DeVault
Friday, January 4, 2013
The Henry County School Board elected Joe DeVault as chairman on Thursday.
Kathy Rogers, completing her fifth one-year-term as chairman, nominated DeVault, the at-large member, as chairman. There were no other nominations, and DeVault was elected unanimously. He had served three terms as vice chairman.
DeVault thanked the board for its confidence and thanked Rogers for her five years as chairman. He said, among other things, she did an excellent job of leading and unifying the board.
Rogers, who represents the Collinsville District on the board, said in an interview: “It (being chairman) was not something I sought out in the past but was asked to fill the role... . It was my pleasure to do it. Dr. DeVault is a good leader and will do a good job. I think the board made a good choice.”
She also said that she had discussed DeVault filling the role with him. She added that she has been chairman with three superintendents and “It’s time for someone else.”
Also at the meeting, the board also unanimously elected Reed Creek District school board member Betsy Mattox as vice chairman.
There were no other nominations.
DeVault previously was vice chairman.
