Arrests follow pursuit
Incident began with robbery
Tuesday, January 8, 2013
A home-invasion robbery in Martinsville was reported around noon Monday, and two people later were taken into custody, according to a news release from the Martinsville Police Department.
The release stated a victim in the 900 block of Askin St. reported a male entered the residence and allegedly forced the victim to the ground and grabbed her purse. The release did not identify the victim, and officers could not be reached Monday night.
The male left the residence and got into a white Dodge Neon with a driver, who was waiting for him outside the residence, the release stated.
About 2:47 p.m. Officer Jeremy Purvis spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. When Purvis “turned around on the vehicle,” a pursuit ensued through the city of Martinsville and into Henry County on U.S. 58 east toward the Chatmoss area, the release stated.
During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle allegedly stuck another vehicle traveling east on U.S. 58, causing the suspect vehicle to lose control, cross the median of U.S. 58 and “come to a stop into an embankment,” the release stated. It added that no one was seriously injured in the accident.
The driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle were taken into custody, and these charges were filed:
• Christopher O’Bryan Moorehead, 20, 113 Park St., Martinsville: felony elude, drive suspended, felony hit and run and reckless driving.
• Walter Dion Rich, 25, 2991 Daniels Creek Road, Collinsville, breaking and entering, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
The case still is under investigation, the release stated.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at 632-7463 or the Martinsville Police Department.
In a separate case released by the Martinsville Police Department, a Martinsville woman was arrested in an incident in which a northbound car allegedly struck three pedestrians standing in the roadway on Barton Street early Saturday morning.
Sarah Jerlean Anderson, 52, of 415 Virginia St., was arrested on charges of DUI assault: maiming while DUI; a felony: misdemeanor DUI; and reckless driving, also a misdemeanor. She was jailed without bond, according to reports by the police department.
The names of the three pedestrians were being withheld pending notification of kin. One of the pedestrians was seriously injured and transported for medical care. The other two pedestrians received minor injuries and were not transported, according to a police report.
The incident happened at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, and Anderson was arrested at that time, the report indicated.
According to another report at the Martinsville Police Department, Russell East Pruitt Jr., 49, of Ridgeway, was issued a summons on a charge of DUI. He was charged in connection with an incident Saturday at 12:11 a.m. on Memorial Boulevard.
