Gloria L. Brown and Raymond M. Staples, both of Martinsville, were married on Dec. 8 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Ridgeway. Elder Marshall L. Wells Jr. and the Rev. Dr. Jesse D. Jones Jr. performed the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of the late John Lawson Law Jr. and Susie Bell Law.
The bridegroom is the son of the late Mack David Staples and Lillie Bell Staples.
The bride was escorted by her son Cecil Brown Jr. of Martinsville. She wore a strapless gown with all over beaded lace, a sweetheart neckline, an over-bustle train and a long-sleeved lace short jacket. She carried a hand tied bouquet of ivory and red roses with red stringed rhinestones and pearls.
Maid of honor was daughter of the bride Tammel Tinsley of Martinsville. Matron of honor was sister of the bridegroom Maxine Myer of Martinsville. They wore black T-strap layered dresses and carried bouquets of red and ivory roses with baby’s breath and satin ribbon.
Bridesmaids were daughters of the bridegroom Victoria Staples of Winston Salem, N.C., and Aneika Staples of Greensboro, N.C.; and daughter of the bride Kristen Brown of Martinsville. Their dresses and bouquets matched those of the maid and matron of honor.
Flower girls were granddaughter of the bride Gionna Valentine, daughter of Kristen Brown and Rashawn Valentine of Martinsville, and niece of the bride Sariyah Millner, daughter of Prenshetta Millner of Martinsville.
Best man was the Rev. Claude Walker of Yanceyville, N.C.
Groomsmen were Reginald Turner of Danville; Michael Martin of Martinsville; son of the bridegroom Kevin Myers of Greensboro; and son of the bride Cecil Brown Jr.
Ring bearer was grandson of the bridegroom Tristan Myers, son of Kevin and Trella Myers of Greensboro.
A program of music was provided by pianist Anthony Porter of Martinsville and singers Naylene Kirby of Martinsville and Louandrea Young of Bassett.
A reception was held at the Jacob Dillard Fellowship Hall.
The couple took a honeymoon on a Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas.
They live in Martinsville.
The bride is a 1971 graduate of Martinsville High School and attended Patrick Henry Community College. She owns Brown’s Tax Service and is employed by the Bone and Joint Center.
The bridegroom is a 1979 graduate of George Washington Carver High School and a 1984 graduate of Big Bend Community College in Kitzengen, Germany. He is retired from the military. He is employed by the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
Prior to the wedding, the couple was honored on Nov. 27 with a bridal shower at El Norteño Restaurant, hosted by the bride’s coworkers, and on Dec. 1 with a bridal shower at Rania’s Restaurant in Martinsville hosted by Tammel Tinsley, Angela Henderson, Karen France, Natalie Law, Tonya Hairston and Kristen Brown.
