Virginia Tech’s basketball program contacted Carlisle School point guard Eric Johnson last week, Carlisle head coach Jason Niblett confirmed.
Niblett said Johnson’s father, Eric Johnson Sr., informed him of Virginia Tech’s contact with the junior point guard.
Johnson is rated a three-star prospect by both Scout.com’s and ESPN.com’s recruiting services.
Johnson scored 19 points and had nine assists in Carlisle’s most recent game, a 72-58 Virginia Independent Conference win Tuesday against Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham.
Johnson is from Durham, N.C. and transferred to Carlilse this year from Christ School in Arden, N.C.
“We’re around each other all day, it’s more family-oriented,” Johnson said Tuesday when asked if playing at Carlisle is similar to playing on an AAU basketball team. “We really like playing with each other.”
