BREAKING NEWS: Husband charged in wounding case
Wife in critical condition

A Bassett man has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding of his wife late Tuesday, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
David Leon Mitchell, 64, also was charged with use of a firearm in commission of a felony in connection with the wounding of his wife, Linda Sue Mitchell, 57, the sheriff’s office release states. Both live at 224 Bittersweet Drive Bassett, the release stated.
According to the release, the E911 system received a call around 11:14 p.m. Tuesday that a person had been shot. Officers arriving at the scene found a woman in the home at 224 Bittersweet Drive with what appeared to be a gunshot wound, the release added.
Linda Sue Mitchell was taken to Memorial Hospital in Martinsville by the Bassett Volunteer Rescue Squad. She subsequently was air lifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., where she was listed in critical condition, the release stated.
David Leon Mitchell was being held in the Henry County jail without bond, the release added.
