• The new Chick-fil-A restaurant in Martinsville for its creative, fun opening last week. The allure of coupons for a year’s worth of chicken sandwiches brought out campers who had fun as well as food.
• Winners of Tuesday’s Henry County Schools’ spelling bee. Fourth-grader Madison Ross was the district-wide champion who will compete at the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee in Winston-Salem, N.C., in March. Michelle Zheng won the spelling bee for grades one and two. The runners up were Megan Vaughn for grades 3-5 and Angelina Moreton for grades one and two. In this era of spell check and Internet abbreviations, it is refreshing to see students study and succeed at the still-relevant skill of spelling.
