Sanville Elementary receives $10K PUP grant from Harvest
Wednesday, February 6, 2013
The Harvest Foundation has approved a $10,000 Pick Up the Pace! grant to Sanville Elementary School and the Sanville PTA to help renovate its baseball field and add a walking track around it, according to a release from Harvest on Tuesday.
The grant will support 13 percent of the total cost of the project, the release said. The renovations include changing the direction and orientation of the baseball field, Melany Stowe, Communication and Career Development Coordinator for Henry County Schools said Tuesday.
“The renovations to the ball field and creation of the walking track will have a tremendous impact on our school and community,” Dr. Sally Rodgers, principal of Sanville Elementary, said in the release. “Not only will it improve the lifestyle of our students, but (it) will also provide the community with a centrally located, safe, secure place where everyone can come for exercise and recreation.”
The grant was the fifth of 10 PUP grants Harvest plans to issue. Each will be up to $10,000 and go toward projects that will be completed within 90 days, Harvest Program Officer Angela Logan said in the release.
“We are very pleased to partner with Sanville Elementary and the Sanville PTA on this community project,” Logan said. “By working with Henry County Public Schools, Henry County Parks and Recreation, and Blackberry Baptist Church, financial and sweat equity will provide an exciting opportunity to improve recreational amenities in this section of the county, while promoting healthier lifestyle choices and increased quality time for families.”
PUP projects must relate to one or more of Harvest’s focus areas: health, education and community vitality. Recipients must be recognized nonprofits, religious institutions, government entities or “fiscal agents” acting for others, so long as the purpose is charitable, Harvest said.
