BREAKING NEWS: Two charged with B&E, grand larceny

Two men have been charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny after two people were found allegedly hiding in an attic loft in a city residence, according to a Martinsville Police Department news release.
Matthew James Griggs, 27, of 1407 Askin St., Martinsville, was released on a $5,000 bond, and Michael Wayne Bowers, 27, of 1221 Egg Farm Road, Patrick Springs, was released on a $3,000 bond, according to the release and the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office.
Around 6 p.m. Wednesday, city police offiers responded to 1405 S. Askin St., regarding alleged suspicious activity, the release stated.
Officer Chris Bell and Sgt. Chad Rhoads observed a vehicle parked behind a residence filled with numerous items, according to the release. The rear door appeared to have been forced open and the officers entered the residence and found another door broken at the top of the stairs, the release added.
Officers searched the residence and found two people allegedly hiding in an attic loft, according to the release. They were taken into custody and charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny, it stated.
The Investigations Unit recovered more than $750 worth of merchandise from the vehicle, the release stated.
