SunTrust branch to close
In Druid Hills

By MICKEY POWELL - Bulletin Staff Writer
SunTrust Bank will close one of its Martinsville branches in the spring.
The bank will close its Druid Hills branch, at 1105 Spruce St., on May 17, according to Mike McCoy, a media relations officer with the company.
McCoy said various factors were considered in making the decision. They included customer traffic volumes, customers’ changing banking needs and the branch’s proximity to other SunTrust locations, he said.
Customers of the branch are being sent letters announcing the closing, he added.
SunTrust has four other branches in Henry County and Martinsville. The one nearest to the Druid Hills branch is at 134 E. Church St. in uptown Martinsville.
McCoy said he expects many Druid Hills customers will start doing business at that branch because it is only about a mile away, although they can go to any SunTrust location.
The other local SunTrust branches are at 3000 Virginia Ave. in Collinsville, the intersection of U.S. 220 South and Fontaine Drive near Ridgeway, and Kroger at Liberty Fair Mall on Commonwealth Boulevard in Martinsville.
The Druid Hills branch has four employees. McCoy said they will be able to apply for jobs that become available at other SunTrust branches.
SunTrust is “committed to work” with them in trying to find jobs at other locations, he said.
McCoy did not know how long the Druid Hills branch has been open.
