SPCA of Martinsville/Henry County will host the annual Fur Ball at Chatmoss Country Club. Attire is black tie optional. Cost: $75 and includes dinner, drinks and entertainment; reply to the SPCA at 638-7297 for tickets. Yappy Hour begins at 6:30 p.m.; dinner at 7:30 p.m.; band, “Spare Change”, will perform at 8:30 p.m. Raffle tickets are $20 each or 6 for $100 and includes an option of a five-day photo safari to South Africa or diamonds; jewelry; art; quilts; furniture; and an eye exam.

Carver Road Ruritan Club will host a Soul Food Cooking Competition: 5-7 p.m. at the club at 130 Linda Drive, off Carver Road, Martinsville. Local Greek alumni chapters of Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Kappa Alpha and Omega Psi Phi will showcase soul food favorites and traditional comfort foods. Public is welcome to attend and vote for the organization with the best dishes.

Brunswick stew will be made at Bassett Ruritan Club, Philpott Dam Road, Bassett; ready for pick-up at 10:30 a.m. at $6 a quart.

Bluegrass at the Rives, presented by the Lions Club of Martinsville and Henry County, will feature the band, “Two Young, Two Old”: 7-9 p.m. at the Rives Theatre, uptown Martinsville.
