Two points on gun control
Friday, February 15, 2013
I have two points to make about the ongoing gun control debate.
My first point: When I was 18 years old, I was taken by the United States government, trained to use firearms and the use of explosives, and I was even trained to assemble a nuclear warhead. Now that I am 62 years old and far more mature, I suddenly cannot be trusted with a firearm.
My second point: The Second Amendment is part of the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is the Constitution. I was taught in school that the Bill of Rights is what makes the rest of the Constitution work. They are individual rights that are God-given and supposedly cannot be taken away.
Every person who served in the military, every senator, every representative in the House and even Barack Obama himself swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.
So let me remind Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and every other representative from Virginia, you also swore this same oath. Don’t take this oath lightly.
