Mistake leads to double bills

Martinsville utility customers need not get upset if they get two utility bills covering the same period.
The city’s utility department announced Tuesday that it accidentally duplicated bills for the billing period that ended Feb. 15. Bills for that period are due Thursday.
Anyone who received a duplicate bill and has already paid their bill for this period can disregard the second billing statement, a city release said.
Customers who received a duplicate bill and have not paid either bill are to pay only one and disregard the other, the release said.
Those who received duplicate bills and inadvertently paid both will get a credit on their next utility bills for the amount of overpayment, officials said.
Anyone with questions about their bills or the error can call 403-5146 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and speak with a utility department associate.
