Local man faces malicious wounding charge

A local man is being held without bond in connection with an alleged wounding incident last week, according to a Martinsville Police Department release.
Charles Wayne Goins, 49, of 1034 Mountain Road, Martinsville, was charged with aggravated malicious wounding in connection with the Thursday incident, the release stated.
The alleged incident occurred at an apartment at the same address, the release showed.
According to the release, the female victim told police Thursday that a man started cursing at her and then threw some type of flammable substance in her face. The man then allegedly put a lighter to her face and hair, the release stated.
The victim suffered second- and third-degree burns to her face and body, the release stated.
She was transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, from which she was later released, according to the police department release.
Shortly after her release from Baptist, she received further treatment at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, the police department release showed.
Martinsville Police Investigator Andy Boitnott is the lead investigator on the case.
