A Henry County man was arrested Friday after being sought by authorities for nearly a year, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Derrick Antonio Hunt, 25, 640 Hobson Road, Axton, allegedly was found hiding in a closet during a search of an apartment in Ridgeway, the sheriff’s office release stated.

When officers found the man in the closet, he allegedly initially gave two separate identities, the release stated. Hunt was identified with help from the Martinsville Police Department, the release added.

Hunt faces outstanding charges in Henry County of felonious assault, robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, the release stated.

Hunt also was charged in Martinsville with malicious wounding, attempted robbery, use of firearm in the commission of a felony, discharge firearm in a public place, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of Scheduled II drug, possession of firearm while in possession of Scheduled II drug, possession of firearm with a removed serial number, probation violation and failure to appear, according to the release.

In addition to these outstanding charges, Hunt was charged with giving false identity to law enforcement in Henry County, the release stated.

He is being held in the Henry County Jail with no bond.

Anyone with information about these charges is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 638-8751 or the Crimestoppers Program at 632-7463.

The Crimestoppers Program offers rewards up to $1,000 for information related to crime. The nature of the crime and the substance of the information determine the amount of reward paid.
