More than 200 students from Albert Harris Elementary, Patrick Henry Elementary and Martinsville Middle School starred in a school music video about the fun of reading filmed recently at Martinsville Speedway.
Waving books in the air and jumping up and down to the beat, the students sang “This book’s gonna be a good book” to the tune of a song by the Black-Eyed Peas.
Participation in the video was an incentive for completing the division’s “Reading Rocks the World” program.
Participating students had to log at least 15 minutes a day of reading outside of school for three months. Each minute read counted as a “mile.”
Martinsville students logged 3,216,960 minutes of reading, the equivalent of circling the globe 129 times, said Pam Mason, the division’s coordinator of reading and media services.
Martinsville High School student Denzell Bennett from Mike Evans’ video production class, made the video.
MHS students Kelshaun Via, Jay Stockton, Kierra Draper and Antiya Wade led the younger students in singing and choreography.
