[5:34] - Marcos Ambrose posted his first top-10 start of the 2013 season and second in nine races at Martinsville. As for Vickers it was his third top-10 start at martinsville Speedway and the second in as many races for the season

[5:32] - This is Johnson's first pole of the season and his 3rd in 23 starts at Martinsville

[5:10] - Other notables in qualifying: Dale Earnhardt Jr. is 17th, Kurt Busch 19th, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. 20th, Kevin Harvick 21st, Danica Patrick 32nd and Mark Martin 35th

[5:05] - Johnson, Ambrose, Vickers, Logano, Kahne, Gordon, Keselowski, Kenseth, Edwards, Newman, Kyle Busch, Truex Jr., McMurray, Montoya, and Bowyer rounds out the top 15

[5:00] - Qualifying has concluded for the STP Gas Booster 500 and Jimmie Johnson, who had the fastest car in the practice session qualifies 1st with a new record

[4:58] - Joe Nemechek, the last to run, slides out of Turn 4 and is last in 44th

[4:55] - Matt Kenseth, one of the final 3 cars to go, cracks the top 10 and lands himself into the No. 8 spot at 19,319 sec, 98.017 mph

[4:52] - Mark Martin in Denny Hamlin's No. 11 has a rough time in qualifying at 33rd at 19.571 sec, 96.755 mph

[4:51] - Greg Biffle right in the middle of the pack and his struggles at the the half-mile track continues with a time of 19.438 sec

[4:49] - Top 10 near the end of 44 qualifying runs: Johnson, Ambrose, Vickers, Logano, Kahne, Gordon, Keselowski, Edwards, Newman and Busch

[4:47] - Dale Earnhardt Jr. a little loose in qualifying and lands at 15th currently at 19.399 sec, 97.613 mph

[4:46] - Danica Patrick in her first Martinsville qualifies 27th with a time of 19.542 sec, 96.839 mph

[4:43] - Kyle Busch cracks the top 10 at 19.333 mph

[4:41] - Jimmie Johnson takes over the pole with a time of 19.244 and 98.400 as new qualifying record and the 6th to beat the previous one set by Tony Stewart in October of 2005

[4:40] - Jeff Burton not even in the top 20 qualifying at 23rd at the moment in a time of 19.523

[4:38] - Carl Edwards in the No. 99 car lands into 7th place at 19.330 sec, 97.962 mph

[4:36] - Casey Mears last of 30 after a run of 19.642 sec

[4:33] - Clint Bowyer lands in the 11 spot right now with a time of 19.378 sec, 97.719 mph

[4:31] - Will we have more fast times? currently 5 cars under 19.30 sec.

[4:29] - Martin Truex Jr. is in the top 10 at No. 8 clocking in at 19.334 sec, 97.941

[4:27] - Ambrose Jr, Vickers, Schrader, Kahne, Gordon the top 5 at the moment

[4:25] - Kasey Kahne 4th now and is another to crack the former record mark at 19.286 sec, 98.185 mph

[4:23] - Just past the halfway point of qualifying for the STP Gas Booster 500 and David Reutimann sits in 23rd

[4:21] - Jeff Gordon, looking for his 8th title at Martinsville, slides into the 4th spot at 19.286 sec, 98.185, and is the 4th to break the Stewart record mark of 19.306 sec, 98.083 mph

[4:17] - First timer Ricky Stenhouse Jr. at 19.433 sec still inside the top 10 sitting 9th currently

[4:15] - Brad Keslowski just gets out on time to not be assessed a penalty and qualifies 4th currently with a time of 19.307 sec a thousandth of a second off the former qualifying record of Tony Stewart

[4:13] - Jeff Gordon coming up with a host of other big names still to qualify

[4:10] - Regan Smith sits 6th at the moment with a time of 19.419 sec

[4:08] - Brad Keslowski on the clock at the moment to clear inspection and trying to not be penalized in qualifying, and looks like he will just make it

[4:05] - Brian Vickers in the No. 55 Aarons is 2nd fastest at 19.266 and is the 3rd to beat the former qualifying record

[4:03] - Bobby Labonte places 9th at 19.541 sec. as we creep up to the 1/3 mark of Sprint Cup qualifying

[3:59] - Last year's spring winner Ryan Newman lands in 3rd as we stand currently at 19.330 sec, 97.962 mph

[3:58] - Marcos Ambrose 19.251 sec, 98.364 mph takes over the pole and is the second to break the qualifying record so far, could have at least 10 to do so at the end of pole day

[3:55] - Juan Pablo Montoya, who was second fastest in practice at 98.502 mph, clocks in 2nd at the moment at 19.366 mph, 97.780 mph

[3:53] - Kevin Harvick 19.435 sec is set in 3rd after 7 runs

[3:50]- Aric Almirola gets loose out of Turn 4 on the 2nd qualifying lap and almost carries into the wall and is the slowest of 5 so far

[3:48] - Kurt Busch holds second at 19.430 sec, 97.458 mph

[3:46] - Tony Stewart starts qualifying at 19.476, but is quickly taken over by David Stremme, while Joey Logano takes over the early pole at 19.269 eclipses the track record by a tenth of second.
