Wins Chatmoss Invitational for 19th time

Keith Decker, of Martinsville, won the 53rd Chatmoss Invitational for his 19th victory in the tournament’s history.

Decker narrowly edged out Tazewell’s Buck Brittain for the win. Jon Hurst finished in third. Saturday’s leader, Dylan Jenson, of Ridgeway, fell back to fourth after Sunday’s round.

Dave Davis, of Greensboro, won the senior championship, tying Decker’s winning two-round score in the championship flight of 143. He was followed by Bill Nunnenkamp and Mark Boedicker.

PHCC sweeps weekend series

Patrick Henry Community College’s baseball team won all three games of a weekend series against College of Albemarle in Elizabeth City, N.C.

Jason Turner threw a complete game shutout on the mound to help the Patriots (20-11, 13-5 Region X) win the first game 4-0. Ed Lozano was 2-for-4 in that game with two runs.

Mike Sluja followed that with a complete-game effort in the second game, getting the win in a 3-1contest. Chaz Tanner went 2-3 at the pate with a double, a walk and a run.

The Patriots squeaked out the third game 4-3. Corey Haynes got the win on the mound, throwing 82?3 innings. Jake Austin picked up the save.

Bill Steven and Dylan Dombrowskas were both 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and one run.
