Hodge vote is regretted
Sunday, April 28, 2013
This letter about the reaction of (City Councilwoman Sharon Brooks) Hodge to the gift of the patchwork quilt was quite shocking. I was surprised that her reaction would be so crass until I studied the photo of the “offensive square” in question.
As somewhat of an amateur psychologist and observer of human nature, I can only say that in my opinion, Hodge must see herself in that small patch. It makes me wonder if she thinks she is the dark figure that has yet to cross to the side of knowledge and enlightenment.
Many people are darkened by their lack of enlightenment, regardless of skin color, and others are unenlightened because of their skin color.
Hodge sounds like someone who may have overdosed on “diversity training” and could perhaps benefit from “desensitization training” so she can carry out her duties as a member of city council without injecting any phobias of dark figures on quilts. It would not hurt to provide some “charm school training” in hopes of making up for any lack of decorum, especially when representing this city in accepting a gift.
I apologize to the students for having voted for my neighbor to represent the city as I never had any evidence of her lack of tact dealing with students until now.
Rarely do I regret my vote in any election ... I do now.
