Sixteen people arrested so far
Tuesday, May 7, 2013
A roundup of people indicted on drug charges Monday is under way in Martinsville, according to Martinsville Police Capt. Eddie Cassady.
Grand jurors met in Martinsville on Monday and handed down indictments, some of which were sealed.
Twenty-six people are named in the indictments, Cassady said.
By 12:45 p.m. today, 16 of the 26 people indicted have been arrested/are in custody, according to a city police news release. The indictments are sealed and officers were in the process of serving the papers/arresting people at mid-afternoon.
Several agencies are working together on the roundup, including the police department, the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Cassady said.
Other law enforcement agencies also helped with the investigation, he added.
