Mustangs seek help housing team players
Sunday, May 26, 2013
The Martinsville Mustangs baseball team needs immediate lodging for some of its players.
The college-league team based at Hooker Field will start its 2013 season this week. The 30 team members arrived in Martinsville on Saturday, but host families still must be found for eight players, said Jesse Cole, president of Team Cole & Associates, which is operating the team this season.
All that is needed to be a host family is a spare bedroom, Cole said.
Players have their own transportation. The team provides dinner for players, who are responsible for getting their own breakfasts and lunches, Cole said.
Host families receive free season tickets to Mustangs home games, he said.
According to Cole, host families recruited in the past have provided lodging to players year after year because they found the experience of getting to know the players rewarding.
There never has been a shortage of host families until now, Cole said. He thinks the shortage so far this year is due to the team expanding its roster.
He indicated that players for whom host families cannot be found soon will have to be placed in motels.
However, “the (Coastal Plain) League frowns on that” due to the expense, he said.
Anyone who wants to provide a Mustang with lodging may call Tyler Parsons, the team’s general manager, at 403-5250 or email him at email@example.com.
