A Martinsville man has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding in connection with a shooting Monday night in the city, according to a Martinsville Police Department news release.
John Daniel Hairston, 63, of 905 Forest Lake Drive, also was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in the city, the release stated.
He is being held in the city jail with no bond.
Wounded in the incident was John E. Kullson Jr., 26, of Ridgeway, the release stated. It added that he suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.
According to the release, shortly after 9:30 p.m. Martinsville police officers responded to the 900 block of Forest Lake Drive in reference to a person who had been shot. Upon their arrival, they found Kullson, who was taken to Memorial Hospital by Martinsville Fire & EMS.
Officers determined that the shooting occurred at a nearby address, the release stated.
Hairston was arrested at the scene, it added.
Investigator D. P. Shumate is investigating the case.
