Campaign contributions revealed for April, May

In the 16th District House of Delegates campaign, the Les Adams for Delegate committee reported more than three times as much in receipts than the Ken Bowman for Delegate committee from April 1 through May 29.

In the 14th District campaign, the Danny Marshall for Delegate committee reported 26 percent more in receipts than the Gary Miller for Delegate committee for that same period. Marshall, R-Danville, had much larger starting and ending balances.

That and the following campaign finance information comes from the website of the Virginia Public Access Project, which used “information exactly as it was filed with the State Board of Elections.” VPAP is a nonpartisan, nonprofit group that tracks campaign contributions and other matters.

Adams, a Chatham attorney and small business owner, is running against Bowman of Dry Fork, a former Pittsylvania County economic development official, in the June 11 primary to choose the Republican Party’s candidate for the 16th District seat in the Nov. 5 election. Del. Don Merricks, R-Pittsylvania County, is not seeking re-election.

The Les Adams for Delegate committee reported $41,188 in total receipts from April 1 through May 29 and $27,318 in total expenses during that period, with a balance of $13,869 May 29. The committee had no balance on April 1.

The $41,188 in total receipts included 33 cash contributions of more than $100 totaling $31,096, 81 cash contributions of $100 or less totaling $5,808, in-kind contributions totaling $284 and a $4,000 loan from Les R. Adams.

The committee reported the following contributions of $1,000 or more: $5,000 from Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen; two $5,000 contributions from Middle Resolution PAC Inc.; $2,500, Virginia Trial Lawyers Political Action Committee; $1,700, Dale Moore; $1,250, Common Sense Strategies; $1,250, Jay Poole; $1,000, Adams, Elmore and Fisk, PLC; and $1,000, Dwight Rudd.

The $27,318 in total expenses included $27,034 in itemized expenses and $284 in in-kind expenses.

The Ken Bowman for Delegate committee reported $13,358 in total receipts from April 1 through May 29, $13,461 in total expenses during that period and an ending balance of $1,043 May 29. The committee had a starting balance of $1,147 on April 1.

The $13,358 in total receipts included nine cash contributions of more than $100 totaling $2,950, 40 cash contributions of $100 or less totaling $2,320, five in-kind contributions totaling $6,088 and a $2,000 loan from Kenneth L. Bowman.

The only contribution of $1,000 or more reported was a $1,000 donation from Sarah C. Fain.

The $13,461 in total expenses included $7,373 in itemized expenses and $6,088 in in-kind expenses.

In the 14th District, Miller, a Danville cardiologist, vice mayor and Democrat, will face Marshall in the Nov. 5 general election.

The Danny Marshall for Delegate committee reported $42,300 in total receipts from April 1 through May 29, $4,405 in total expenses during that period and an ending balance of $90,781 May 29. The starting balance on April 1 was $52,885.

The $42,300 in total receipts included 49 cash contributions of more than $100 totaling $38,900, three cash contributions of $100 or less totaling $240, four in-kind contributions totaling $2,558 and $602 in miscellaneous receipts.

Itemized cash contributions of $1,000 or more included: $2,500, Dominion Political Action Committee-VA; $2,500, Majority Leader PAC; two contributions totaling $2,500 from HBAV Build-PAC; $1,500, Owens-Illinois General Inc.; $1,500, VA Mortgage Lenders PAC; three contributions totaling $3,500 from Virginia Bank PAC; $1,000, Alpha Natural Resources Services LLC; $1,000, Altria Client Services Inc.; $1,000, Associated General Contractors of Virginia Inc. (PAC); $1,000, Committee For Effective Government Virginia Natural Gas Inc. (VIRGINIA-VNGC); $1,000, Community Loans of America Inc.; $1,000, CPA/PAC of Virginia; $1,000, Delta Dental of Virginia; $1,000, Friends of Sal Iaquinto Campaign Account; $1,000, Brian K. and Jennifer Holland; $1,000, Huntington Ingalls Industries; $1,000, Kemper Consulting Inc.; $1,000, Koch Industries Inc.; $1,000, Maritime Issues Council; $1,000, The Medical Society of Virginia PAC; $1,000, VA Transportation Construction Alliance Political Action Committee; and $1,000, Virginia Engineers PAC.

The $4,405 in total expenses included $1,847 in itemized expenses and $2,558 in in-kind expenses.

The Gary Miller for Delegate committee reported $33,515 in total receipts from April 1 through May 29, $32,753 in total expenses for that period and an ending balance of $14,986 May 29. The starting balance on April 1 was $14,224.

The $33,515 in total receipts included 93 cash contributions of more than $100 totaling $28,300, 56 cash contributions of $100 or less totaling $2,215, 11 in-kind contributions totaling $2,648 and $352 in miscellaneous receipts.

Itemized cash contributions of $1,000 or more included: $10,000, Dr. Gary P. Miller; $1,000, Cardiology Clinic; and $1,000, Medical Society of Virginia PAC.

The $32,753 in total expenses included $30,105 in itemized expenses and $2,648 in in-kind expenses.
