BREAKING NEWS: NCI, South Street project get funds

Friday, June 21, 2013

The New College Institute has received $700,000 and Phase II of the South Street Neighborhood Improvement Project in Henry County has received $500,000, Gov. Bob McDonnell announced Friday.

The funds were among more than $6.8 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for 11 projects in Virginia, according to a release from the governor’s office.

The NCI funds will be used toward the construction of the second floor of the institute’s new building being erected on the Baldwin Block uptown. That floor will be NCI’s Center for Innovation and Leadership.

Funds for the South Street project will be used to rehabilitate 22 homes in Phase II — the final phase — of the project.
