The Martinsville man injured when he stepped in front of a motor vehicle on Sunday has died, and police are asking for help with the investigation.
Benjamin Wayne Grubbs, 57, of 282 Mitchell St., Martinsville, died Tuesday morning, Interim Martinsville Police Chief Eddie Cassady said.
Grubbs was pronounced dead at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., where he was being treated for injuries he suffered after allegedly stepping off the sidewalk and into the path of an oncoming motorist around 9:05 p.m. Sunday.
The vehicle was traveling south in the 400 block of Liberty Street, “heading towards the city on Liberty Street when Mr. Grubbs stepped out into the path of travel,” Cassady has said.
The driver was not injured, authorities said.
No charges were filed in connection with the incident, authorities have said.
Authorities are encouraging anyone who may have seen Grubbs, or had any communication with him before the incident occurred Sunday, to contact them.
