Carter: Person matters more than color
Wednesday, August 28, 2013
It is the human being that matters — not his or her color, according to uptown Martinsville businessman Sandy Carter.
“I have a genuine love for people,” said Carter, the owner of Carter’s menswear shop. “I don’t have issues with a person’s race, color or creed. It makes no difference to me whatsoever.”
And, “I appreciate everybody’s contributions” to society, he said.
For that reason, he declined to discuss matters of race in depth.
However, Carter said people who dislike others who are different from themselves must address those issues from an individual perspective.
He believes God loves everyone and created everyone in his image, so people should love everyone as they love themselves, he indicated.
“People who love God in their heart don’t have time to see color” as being an issue in their relationships with other people, he emphasized.
