Thursday, August 29, 2013
By FROM BULLETIN STAFF REPORTS -
One of two juveniles allegedly exploited in a sex trafficking operation being investigated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was found in Henry County.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office helped recover the juvenile, according to a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office release.
According to Henry County Sheriff’s Investigator Eric Winn, the two juveniles are teenage girls from Montgomery County.
According to the release, the Montgomery sheriff’s office became aware of the juveniles allegedly being exploited during online investigations into the culture of sex trafficking.
Investigators were led to the Collinsville area, where they worked with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office to locate one of the juveniles on Aug. 22, the release stated. Winn said the girl was found in a hotel parking lot.
A 37-year-old Christiansburg woman was arrested on unrelated charges (capias for failure to appear in court on drug distribution charges) at the time of the recovery, the release stated. She is being held in the Western Virginia Regional Jail, the release added.
Winn said she is the mother of the girl who was found in Henry County.
The second juvenile was located the next day in the Christiansburg area of Montgomery County, the release stated.
The case has been forwarded to the FBI for further investigation, the release continued.
Montgomery County sheriff’s Capt. R.B. New said in the release that “this operation was a continuation of efforts beginning last month with the online investigation into prostitution and the meth trade in the New River Valley.
“The recovery of these juveniles ... is one more step forward in our efforts to curb this threat in our community," New said.
