Slaying charges advance
Tuesday, September 17, 2013
A Martinsville man was indicted Monday in connection with the shooting deaths last year of his mother and stepfather.
Zachary Kasey Bailey, 20, of 25 Beaver Road, Martinsville, was indicted by a Henry County grand jury on two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Kathy and Charles “Darryl” Fain.
The two were found shot to death July 18, 2012, inside their home at 25 Beaver Road.
Kathy Bailey Fain, 49, died from a single gunshot wound to the head and her husband, Darryl Fain, 52, died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to preliminary reports from the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke.
The bodies were found in different rooms of the home.
After the shootings, law enforcement officers found Zachary Bailey at a friend’s home in Bassett, and Bailey went to the sheriff’s office of his own accord, according to previous reports.
He had attended Bassett High School.
Bailey also was indicted Monday on two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony and maliciously shoot at or within an occupied dwelling, also in connection with the deaths.
He continues to be held without bond in the Henry County Jail.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt. It is a grand jury’s determination that enough evidence exists to hold a trial.
