Adams, Marshall lead in donations

Among committees for the five candidates in this area’s two contested state House of Delegates races, Les Adams for Delegate raised the most money between July 1 and Aug. 31.

But Danny Marshall for Delegate easily had the most money on hand as of Aug. 31.

That’s according to information on the website of the Virginia Public Access Project, a nonprofit that tracks money in politics, among other things.

For the most recent reporting period of July 1 through Aug. 31, 2013, the Les Adams for Delegate committee reported raising $45,200. Adams, a Republican, and Elizabeth Jones, a Democrat, both of Chatham, are the candidates for 16th District delegate.

The Elizabeth Jones for Delegate committee reported raising $14,400 between July 1 and Aug. 31.

For the period July 1 through Aug. 31, the Les Adams for Delegate committee reported 55 cash contributions of more than $100 each, totaling $37,882. It also reported 60 cash contributions of $100 or less, totaling $3,392; four in-kind contributions more than $100, totaling $3,923; and $3 in miscellaneous receipts.

The largest itemized cash contributions (more than $100) reported by the Les Adams for Delegate committee for this period were: Middle Resolution PAC, $5,000; Ben J. Davenport Jr. of Chatham, $3,000; Virginia Dental Association, $3,000; Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association and Virginia Wine Wholesalers Association, $2,500 each; and Virginia Beverage Association, $1,250.

The Elizabeth Jones for Delegate committee reported 16 cash contributions of more than $100 each, totaling $5,110, between July 1 and Aug. 31. It also reported 58 cash contributions of $100 or less, totaling $2,875. It also reported five in-kind contributions more than $100, totaling $1,315; two in-kind contributions of $100 or less, totaling $100; and a $5,000 loan from Elizabeth Jones.

The largest itemized cash contributions (more than $100) reported by the Elizabeth Jones for Delegate committee totaled $2,200 and were from Anderson Jones of Chatham.

The Les Adams for Delegate committee reported an ending balance on Aug. 31 of $25,899 after expenses totaling $23,043 between July 1 and Aug. 31, 2013. The Elizabeth Jones for Delegate committee reported an ending balance on Aug. 31 of $8,964 after expenses totaling $10,937 from July 1 through Aug. 31.

In the 14th House District race, the Danny Marshall for Delegate committee reported raising $39,965 between July 1 and Aug. 31; the Gary Miller for Delegate committee, $33,550; and the Mary Scott Martin for Delegate committee, $920. Marshall, the incumbent, is a Republican; Miller is a Democrat; and Martin is independent. Marshall and Miller are of Danville, and Martin is of the Ridgeway District in Henry County.

The Danny Marshall for Delegate committee reported for the period July 1 through Aug. 31: 27 cash contributions of more than $100 each, totaling $27,450; five cash contributions of $100 or less, totaling $349; three in-kind contributions more than $100, totaling $12,163; and $3 in miscellaneous receipts.

The largest itemized cash contributions (more than $100) reported by the Danny Marshall for Delegate Committee for the period July 1 through Aug. 31 were: Virginia Auto Dealers Association and Virginia Dental Association, $3,000 each; Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association and Virginia Wine Wholesalers Association, $2,500 each; Chandler Concrete of Virginia Inc., $2,000; and Virginia Beverage Association, $1,500.

The largest in-kind donations reported by the Danny Marshall for Delegate committee were contributions totaling $10,913 from Dominion Leadership Trust of Fredericksburg — voter survey and voter contact calls.

The Gary Miller for Delegate committee reported, for the period July 1 through Aug. 31, 43 cash contributions of more than $100 each, totaling $25,070; 41 cash contributions of $100 or less, totaling $2,280; and two in-kind contributions more than $100, totaling $6,200.

The largest itemized cash contributions (more than $100) reported by the Gary Miller for Delegate committee were: Gary P. Miller, $9,000; and Women’s Strike Force of Richmond, $5,000. The biggest in-kind donation that committee reported was $6,000, Democratic Party - Virginia House Caucus campaign services.

The Mary Scott Martin for Delegate committee reported two cash contributions of $100 or less, totaling $120; and one in-kind contribution worth $800 from Alton Foley of Bassett — Web page construction and upload.

As for cash on hand, the Danny Marshall for Delegate committee reported an ending balance on Aug. 31 of $96,341 after expenses totaling $39,096 between July 1 and Aug. 31, 2013.

The Gary Miller for Delegate committee reported an ending balance on Aug. 31 of $8,266 after expenses totaling $44,922 between July 1 and Aug. 31, 2013.

The Mary Scott Martin for Delegate committee reported an ending balance on Aug. 31 of $233 after expenses totaling $812 between July 1 and Aug. 31, 2013.
