Race teams from up and down the East Coast and from as far away as Perth, Australia began rolling into Martinsville Speedway Friday at noon for the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 weekend.
The race, scheduled for Sunday, is regarded by teams, drivers and fans as the Daytona 500 of NASCAR Late Model Stock racing. It has the largest purse of any NASCAR Late Model race with the winner garnering $25,000. With available bonuses, the winner could wind up taking home $35,000 along with the iconic grandfather clock that serves as the winner’s trophy.
Practice is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. after all cars go through technical inspection. More than 90 cars are expected to enter.
Racing action begins at noon on Sunday with the first of four heat races that will be used to determine the starting lineup for the 200-lap feature.
