By FROM AP AND BULLETIN REPORTS -
Gasoline prices in Virginia have fallen by an average of seven cents per gallon since last month.
AAA Mid-Atlantic reported that the average price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Virginia was $3.17 Oct. 22. That was down from $3.24 a month ago statewide.
Virginians are paying 17 cents less than the national average. AAA Mid-Atlantic spokeswoman Martha Mitchell Meade said prices are expected to continue to decline because of sufficient supplies, weaker demand, more affordable winter-blend gasoline and lower crude oil prices.
According to Steve Wallace at Wallace Exxon, 3021 Virginia Ave., Collinsville, a gallon of regular unleaded cost $2.99 at the station on Thursday afternoon. One month ago, regular unleaded was $3.20 per gallon. Wallace said the price this month is lower than the price was at the same time last year; however, he expects the price will rise again soon.
“It’s on a downward trend right now,” Wallace said, “but I think when it gets close to Thanksgiving it’ll go back up.”
James Wood at Druid Hills Marathon, 75 Johnson Lane, Martinsville, agreed with Wallace’s assessment.
“More than likely, the price will go back up soon because of holiday traveling,” Wood said.
The price of regular unleaded was $3.10 per gallon at Druid Hills Marathon on Thursday afternoon. At most Henry County/Martinsville gas stations surveyed, prices ranged from $2.98 per gallon on the low end to $3.15 per gallon on the high end.
