Wednesday, October 30, 2013
A Kentucky man being held on a bank robbery charge in Minnesota is being called a person of interest in connection with an Oct. 8 bank robbery in Henry County, according to a news release and Henry County Sheriff’s Capt. Eric Winn.
George Richard Gaunt, 25, of 1700 W. Chestnut St., Louisville, is being investigated in connection with the Henry County robbery and three other bank robberies, in Augusta County, Va., Linn County, Iowa, and Blue Earth County, Minn., the release stated.
He is being held in the Blue Earth County jail under a $500,000 bond on a bank robbery charge there, Winn said.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Attorney’s Office to determine which court the case will be prosecuted in, Winn said.
The robbery in Henry County occurred at Carter Bank and Trust, 6142 A.L. Philpott Highway at 2:49 p.m. Oct. 8, when a male allegedly entered the bank, approached a teller and presented a note demanding money.
The suspect allegedly was armed with a black semi-automatic pistol and fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
Henry County authorities have cooperated with a number of other agencies, including the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Attorney’s Office, according to the release.
Anyone with any information about the bank robbery is asked to call the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 638-8751 or the Crimestoppers Program at 63-CRIME (632-7463). Crimestoppers offers rewards up to $1,000 for information related to crimes. The nature of the crime and the substance of the information determine the amount of reward paid.
