Poindexter running unopposed
Thursday, October 31, 2013
Incumbent 9th District Del. Charles Poindexter is running unopposed in the Nov. 5 election with a focus on growing the economy by keeping taxes low and eliminating unneeded regulations.
Poindexter, R-Glade Hill, said tax increases kill jobs and discourage investments while unnecessary regulations burden businesses. He also supports investments in education and transportation.
During the last session of the General Assembly, Poindexter worked to get approval for funds to continue improvements to U.S. 58 and prioritized the Lovers Leap section of the highway.
Poindexter also supports development of Virginia’s energy resources to help counter the high costs of energy.
He is on several committees, including Appropriations; Counties, Cities and Towns; Agriculture, Chesapeake & Natural Resources.
He also serves on a number of commissions: Southwest Virginia Cultural Heritage Foundation; Roanoke River Basin Advisory Committee; Roanoke River Basin Bi-State (VA/NC) Commission; Roanoke Higher Education Authority Board of Trustees; Western Virginia Public Education Consortium; and the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation.
Poindexter, 71, first was elected to represent the 9th District in 2007, after serving eight years on the Franklin County Board of Supervisors and more than 30 years in the field of information systems technology. He and his wife, freelance editor and writer Janet Poindexter, have six adult children and 10 grandchildren.
The 9th District includes parts of Franklin, Henry and Patrick counties.
