Deputy's car in collision
Tuesday, November 12, 2013
From Bulletin staff reports
A Henry County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was involved in a three-car collision Monday night, according to Sheriff Lane Perry and a news release from the Virginia State Police.
The accident occurred around 7 p.m. on Virginia 57 at its intersection with Mount Hermon Church Road, the release said.
A preliminary investigation showed that a 2001 Dodge Neon driven by James Wright, 70, of Bassett, was stopped in the westbound lane of Virginia 57, attempting to make a left turn, when it allegedly was struck by a 2000 Saturn four-door, the release said.
After the collision, the Neon allegedly crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with the sheriff’s office vehicle, the release said.
That vehicle was being driven by Deputy Chris Spencer of Horsepasture, according to Perry and the release.
The deputy was headed in the opposite direction of the other two vehicles at the time of the collision, Perry said.
The Saturn was driven by Skyler Pevon Malddonado, 23, of Collinsville, according to the release.
All three drivers were taken to Memorial Hospital in Martinsville for treatment, the release said. Wright later was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, it added.
Spencer was being treated for what were believed to be minor injuries, Perry said. Information about the other drivers’ conditions was not available late Monday.
No charges had been filed Monday night, according to the release.
