Say 'Merry Christmas'
Thursday, November 14, 2013
Here it is, the Christmas season is almost upon us. This is the season of gifts, families and good food. More importantly, it is the season when we remember and thank our Lord Jesus Christ for coming to Earth as a newborn baby in Bethlehem.
Last year, I tried to thank the businesses who supported this most important Christian Holiday. I made sure to wish the employees a “Merry Christmas.”
Bill O’Reilly of “The O’Reilly Factor” on Fox News recently said, “there is an anti-Christian bias in the United States, and it is more on display at Christmas season than any other time.”
He was speaking of the decision of some stores to ban the use of “Merry Christmas” in their stores and advertisement.
I did a web search and found a list called “Naughty or Nice” on the American Family Association’s website. It lists top retailers and how they recognize Christmas. I was pleasantly surprised at the few businesses who were against using “Christmas” and the very many who are for it.
As a Christian, I plan to be pro-active and simply say “Merry Christmas” to everyone I greet as we shop and interact during the next month and a half. I also want to put my heart where my mouth is and make this year much less about presents and food and much more about Jesus’ birthday.
Wishing all the citizens of Martinsville and Henry County a blessed and Merry Christmas.
