Vicky Harbour Purdy’s death has been ruled a homicide, according to Franklin County Sheriff Bill Overton.

“We are definitely dealing with a homicide,” Overton said Wednesday afternoon.

However, he said the cause of Purdy’s death is not being released.

Overton did say the search continues for Ricky Dodson of Bassett.

Dodson, whose 54th birthday was Oct. 31, last was seen in early October, around the same time Purdy last was seen alive, according to authorities.

Franklin and Henry County authorities are working to locate Dodson because they are concerned for his safety, officials have said. Authorities have said that he is not considered a suspect in Purdy’s death.

Purdy’s remains were found Oct. 6 in a burned vehicle on Philpott Road in Franklin County, near the Henry County line, authorities have said. They were identified by DNA tests in Roanoke on Oct. 10.

Overton said the remains were “badly burned” and basically were skeletal.

Purdy, 53, was last seen by her husband on Oct. 3, according to previous reports.

Dodson’s mother, Polly (Paulette) Dodson, has said her son and Purdy had known each other for years and were friends.

The two last were seen together near Blackberry Road, Polly Dodson has said.

Henry County Capt. Eric Winn also said the investigation into Dodson’s disappearance continues, and interviews are being conducted.

Additional information was not available Wednesday afternoon.

Dodson has been described as a white male with brown hair and green eyes. He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs about 158 pounds, authorities have said.

Anyone with information in Henry County is asked to call the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 638-8751 or Crime Stoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463).
