Friday, November 15, 2013
By BULLETIN STAFF REPORTS -
A Stuart man died Thursday after his car struck a utility pole, went down an embankment and overturned in a river, according to a release from the Virginia State Police.
Taylor Stuart Blankenship, 73, was pronounced dead at the scene, the release stated.
The crash occurred around 11:20 a.m. Thursday on Route 618, three-tenths of a mile north of Route 708 in Patrick County.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina was traveling southbound on Route 618 when it ran off the road, overcorrected, crossed the road on the left and struck a utility pole before traveling down an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn in a river, the release stated.
Blankenship, the driver, was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, the release added.
The investigation is continuing, and no additional details were available Thursday night.
