BREAKING NEWS: Two in serious condition after shooting
Sunday, November 17, 2013
Two people are in serious condition at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a shooting early Sunday morning in Martinsville, according to a news release.
According to the release from the Martinsville Police Department, officers responded to a report of a shooting at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at 102 Pony Place.
"Officers arriving discovered that the residence had been shot at, but no one was injured," the release said. "While the officers were at that residence, they could hear multiple gun shots being fired at another location several streets over."
Officers then went to the 400 block of Third Street, where they found a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole, the release said. Two people were found with gunshot wounds, the release added.
Both were taken to Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, then transferred to Roanoke Memorial.
The victims were identified as Eugene Laquan Jones, 20, and Willie Tyree Grant, 21, both of Martinsville.
No charges have been filed, the release said.
Due to a large number of people at the scene on Third Street, officers from Patrick County, Henry County, Martinsville City Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police responded to help restore order at the scene and at the hospital, according to the release.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police ask anyone with information to call the department at 403-5300 or Crimestoppers at 632-7463.
