Primland plans to add four buildings with 16 units

Sunday, December 22, 2013

MEADOWS OF DAN — The Primland resort plans to continue expanding in 2014, bringing its total units to 64 when completed.

“Given our rapid growth in 2013, the owners have approved a plan to build four new, four-unit buildings, which will add 16 guest rooms to our expanding options of the Lodge, fairway cottages, mountain homes and tree houses,” said Steve Helms, vice president of Primland.

In 2013, Primland added two mountain cabins, bringing the total to 14, and two tree houses, bringing the total to three.

In addition to the 26 rooms in the Lodge, Primland also has three fairway cottages with two units each, Helms said.

Primland, which employs about 200 people at its peak season, is seeking an expansion of the Enterprise Zone for the latest four-building expansion, Helms said.

In all, about 60 more acres are being sought for the zone, he said.

The project is expected to take 14 months to complete, he added.

“We are delighted to be a major employer in the region and are working with government bodies and contractors to ensure that the resort, which is now receiving national and international attention, continues its progress to the forefront of world renowned vacation spots, “ Helms added in a news release.

This year Primland was selected by Travel and Leisure’s World’s Best as one of the top 50 hotels and resorts in the world.

That was followed by Conde Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice rankings in the Top 100 Hotels and Resorts in the World. In addition, Primland is featured in Conde Nast’s Gold List for 2014.

In the Conde Nast Top 100 survey, Primland came in ahead of all of regional competitors — Keswick Hall, Williamsburg Inn, The Greenbrier, The Homestead, Ritz-Carlton Reynolds Plantation, Pinehurst and Barnesley Gardens. It also eclipsed Blackberry Farm and The Inn at Little Washington.

The resort’s score of 95 ranked it in the top 20 hotels and resorts in the U.S.
