New charges filed in incident

Additional charges have been filed relating to a Nov. 17 shooting incident and a Nov. 15 attempted robbery, according to a release from the Martinsville Police Department.
Outstanding charges have been filed on Jermal Ra-Sean Turner, 24, of 102 Pony Place, Martinsville, according to the release. Turner has been charged with felony shooting into an occupied dwelling, felony discharge a weapon to endanger people, felony conspiracy to discharge a weapon at an occupied building and misdemeanor discharge a firearm in a public place, the release said.
The charges relate to a shooting incident Nov. 17 on Third Street in Martinsville, the release said.
Also, the release said, Turner has been charged with felony attempted robbery in connection with a Nov. 15 incident on the 200 block of Third Street.
Turner’s whereabouts are not known, and anyone with information about his location is advised to call 911, the release stated.
According to previous reports, charges relating to the Nov. 17 shooting previously had been filed against three others, and one person died as a result of the incident.
Eugene Laquan Jones, 20, died Nov. 18 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital due to gunshot wounds he received in the Nov. 17 shooting, according to previous reports.
Jones, of Martinsville, and Willie Tyree Grant, 21, also of Martinsville, were found in a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole on the 400 block of Third Street, according to Interim Martinsville Police Chief Eddie Cassady in the earlier report.
The two initially were taken to Memorial Hospital in Martinsville and then to Roanoke Memorial, authorities said.
On Nov. 18, Devin Laray Pritchett, 20, of 280 Martin Park, Axton, was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, discharging a weapon from an occupied motor vehicle, conspiracy to shoot into an occupied dwelling and discharging a firearm in a public place, according to previous reports.
On Nov. 20, Grant, of 1124 Drewry Road, Martinsville, was charged with conspire to maliciously shoot into dwelling, discharge firearm from motor vehicle, maliciously shoot into occupied dwelling and discharge firearm in city, according to previous reports.
Also on Nov. 20, a 17-year-old whose name was not released was charged with discharging firearm from motor vehicle, two counts of discharge firearm into occupied building, and one count of discharge firearm in public place, according to previous reports.
According to the earlier reports, Cassady said that the incident began around 1:30 a.m. Nov. 17, when police responded to 102 Pony Place to a reported shooting. A residence had been shot into, but there were no injuries there, authorities said.
Officers then heard multiple gunshots at another location several streets over and went to Third Street, where they found Jones and Grant.
