N.C. man is killed in county accident
Sunday, January 12, 2014
A North Carolina man became the fourth person to die in connection with highway-related incidents in Henry County in three days.
Davon Willis Dixon, 28, of Raleigh, N.C., was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle crash shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday on Route 658, according to a news release from the Virginia State Police.
The preliminary state police investigation showed that a 2004 Cadillac 4 door CTS was traveling westbound on Route 658 (Foxfire Road) when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway, became airborne and struck a tree, the release stated.
Dixon, the driver, was wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident, the release added.
The accident occurred five-tenths of a mile west of U.S. 220 in Henry County, it stated.
The investigation into the accident is continuing.
On Thursday, Jennifer Courtney Thomasson and an as-yet unidentified man died in a head-on collision on U.S. 220 south near Ridgeway, and early Saturday, state police Sgt. J. Michael Phillippi was found in his crashed police car on Chatham Road/Virginia 57. He was taken to Memorial Hospital where he died a short time later.
Ironically, Phillippi worked at the scene of the double fatality Thursday night.
