SunTrust branch to close
Tuesday, February 4, 2014
By BULLETIN STAFF REPORTS -
SunTrust Bank will close one of its three local branches this spring.
The bank will close its branch at the intersection of Greensboro Road (U.S. 220 South) and Fontaine Drive near Ridgeway at 2 p.m. May 9, according to Mike McCoy, a media relations officer with the company.
SunTrust’s decision to close the branch was “done after careful study and analysis,” McCoy said.
The study took into account factors such as customers’ changing banking needs and transaction volumes at the branch, he said.
Customers of the branch are being sent letters about the closing, he added.
The branch has five employees. McCoy said they will be eligible to apply for jobs elsewhere within the company. He did not know if any will automatically be given jobs at another branch.
McCoy said he knows of no plans to close any of the remaining three SunTrust branches in Henry County and Martinsville.
Those branches are at 134 E. Church St. in uptown Martinsville, 3000 Virginia Ave. in Collinsville and Kroger at Liberty Fair Mall on Commonwealth Boulevard in Martinsville.
SunTrust closed its previous Druid Hills branch on Spruce Street in Martinsville last May.
