BREAKING NEWS: Adkins to run for state Senate
She won't seek re-election to city council
Tuesday, February 25, 2014
Martinsville Mayor Kim Adkins on Tuesday announced that she will seek the Democratic nomination for the 20th District state Senate seat in 2015.
Therefore, she will not seek re-election to Martinsville City Council, she said during Tuesday night’s council meeting. Her term will end Jan. 1.
Adkins is vying for the seat now held by state Sen. Bill Stanley, R-Glade Hill.
Although the election is 21 months away, Adkins said she announced her intentions of running for state office now because she felt an obligation to city residents to do so.
She is serving her first four-year term on council and her second two-year term as mayor. In Martinsville, mayors are elected by council members from among themselves.
More about Adkins’ Senate bid will be published in the Martinsville Bulletin on Wednesday.
